Embodied Writing Create from the wisdom of your body, not just your mind. Embodied writing is creating from the wisdom of the body, not just the mind. It’s listening to and moving with your own cyclical hormonal nature: the rhythms of your energy, your inner creative seasons, and the larger cycles of the earth. It’s letting your heart, your creative centre (the sacral chakra), your voice and expression (the throat chakra), and other parts of your body lead the process at different times. This approach is more fluid and alive than a rigid “must-write-every-day” schedule. It’s an unfolding journey where the writing and the writer transform together. Sometimes the book you start is not the book you finish, and that’s the beauty of it. Embodied writing is as much about being present with your creative process as it is about the words you produce. When you let your body and life lead, the writing will follow, often in ways you couldn’t ever plan. In this workshop at Provisions, you’ll have space to slow down, tune into your body and explore a more embodied approach to your writing. Whether you’re working on a book, returning to a piece of writing, exploring an idea or simply wanting to reconnect with your creativity, this is an opportunity to experience writing differently. What we’ll explore Listening to the wisdom of your body We’ll begin by slowing down and tuning into the body as a source of creative intelligence. Through grounding, guided embodiment and writing prompts, you’ll explore what different parts of your body might have to share with you, and where your words want to begin. Caring for yourself as a creative being How you feel, what you need and the energy you have available all influence your creative process. We’ll explore what helps you feel safe, supported and resourced in your writing, and what it might look like to develop a writing practice that honours your body’s needs. Moving with your writing as it unfolds Writing doesn’t always happen in a straight line. Sometimes the words flow; sometimes you need to step away, reflect, live or integrate something before you can write about it. We’ll explore how to work with these different phases of the process, listen for what is changing and allow space for what wants to emerge. Becoming who your writing is calling you to be Writing can change you. The ideas and themes you explore can shape your identity, challenge what you believe and invite you into new ways of being. We’ll explore who you are becoming through your writing, and how you can begin to embody that in your creative life. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have had the opportunity to: ● Connect with your body as a source of creative wisdom. ● Explore what your body needs to feel safe and supported in creating. ● Recognise how your energy, emotions and lived experiences influence your writing. ● Find ways to work with your creative process when the words aren’t flowing or your direction is changing. ● Reconnect with the piece of writing you’re working on, or discover what wants to emerge next. ● Explore who your writing is inviting you to become. ● Identify an embodied action to support your writing beyond the workshop. There will be space for guided practices, personal reflection and writing, with no expectation to produce a finished piece of work or share anything you’d prefer to keep private. Who this workshop is for? This workshop is for writers, aspiring authors and creatives who want to explore a more embodied way of creating. You might be at the beginning of a book, somewhere in the middle of a manuscript, returning to a piece of writing that has been sitting unfinished, or simply curious about what becomes possible when you listen to your body as well as your mind. You don’t need to have a current writing project or consider yourself a writer to take part. Just bring your curiosity and a willingness to explore. * *Please bring a journal/notebook and pen. ** About your guide Tara Jackson is a five-time author, writing mentor and founder of Global Soul Press, an independent hybrid publishing house. Her work explores the relationship between writing, identity and embodiment, supporting writers to connect with their creativity and bring their books into the world. Drawing on her own experience of writing and the ways it has shaped her life, Tara takes an embodied approach to the creative process, inviting writers to listen to their bodies, trust their own rhythms and allow their writing to evolve alongside them.
